How the Target Weight Timeline Calculator works

Formula: Weekly change = current weight × selected percentage; exact weeks = |target weight − current weight| ÷ weekly change; duration = exact weeks rounded up.

Direction comes from whether target weight is above or below current weight. The weekly kilogram estimate uses starting weight and remains fixed for this simple schedule. The target date adds the rounded-up number of weeks to today using date-only UTC arithmetic. Height is used only to compare the target with the adult BMI lower reference of 18.5.

Assumptions and limits: Real weight gain and loss are non-linear. A constant starting rate does not model changes in body mass, energy expenditure, water, health, or adherence. Results are estimates for education and planning, not medical advice.

Yes. A target below current weight creates a loss timeline, while a target above current weight creates a gain timeline. The calculator rejects only a target that exactly equals current weight.

How is the target weight timeline calculated?

Weekly change equals starting weight multiplied by the selected percentage. The absolute difference between target and current weight is divided by that weekly amount, and partial weeks are rounded up.

Does the weekly percentage change as body weight changes?

No. This simple planning model calculates the weekly amount from starting weight and holds that amount constant. It does not recalculate the percentage from a changing body weight each week.

How is the estimated target date calculated?

The calculator adds the rounded-up number of whole weeks to today using date-only UTC arithmetic. The date is an estimate and does not promise that your body weight will change on that schedule.

Why must target weight differ from current weight?

When the two values are equal, there is no gain or loss interval to calculate. Enter a higher target for a gain timeline or a lower target for a loss timeline.

Why can a target weight show a BMI reference caution?

Height is used to compare the target with the lower adult BMI reference of 18.5. A target below that reference shows a non-blocking caution to reconsider the target and consult a qualified clinician; BMI is a screening measure, not a diagnosis.

Why might actual weight gain or loss take a different amount of time?

Real weight change is not linear. Water, energy needs, appetite, activity, health, body composition, and adherence can change, so use the result as a planning estimate and review longer-term trends.
