Formula: Calories = MET × 3.5 × body weight (kg) ÷ 200 × minutes.
The selected Adult Compendium MET represents total (gross) activity intensity, so the estimate includes resting energy used during the session. Calories per hour applies the same equation at 60 minutes.

Are the running calorie results gross or active calories?
They are gross calories and include resting energy during the run. Active or net calories would be lower because they subtract the resting energy that would have been used during that time.
How should I choose a running speed?
Select the practical speed band closest to your average speed during the run. The calculator uses one standardized MET for that choice and does not analyze split-by-split pace changes.
Does the running calculator model hills or treadmill incline?
No. The speed-based MET choices do not separately model hill grade, treadmill incline, trail conditions, or elevation changes. These factors can make actual energy expenditure higher or lower.
Why can a watch report different running calories?
Wearables may use heart rate, proprietary equations, GPS, age, and other inputs, while this calculator uses standardized MET values. Neither method is a direct measurement, and both can differ from actual expenditure.
Can I use pounds instead of kilograms?
Yes. Select imperial units to enter pounds. The value is converted to kilograms for the MET equation, while calorie, hourly calorie, and MET outputs are presented consistently.
Should I add resting calories to the running result?
No. The displayed estimate already includes resting energy because it is based on gross MET values. Adding resting calories again would double-count that component.
Is this running calculator medical or training advice?
